SideKick projects

SideKick Dance have been involved in a number of creative projects giving fantastic opportunities to those taking part, allowing them to be involved in something special. Here are some of the projects we have worked with.

Gratitude

This film shows the dancers creating a piece in the studio inspired by a lesson plan in ‘Making a Move’ by Jo Cone, Louise Jaggard and Claire Pring. As the dancers have not been able to perform throughout the pandemic, they decided to film some of their creative ideas here.

Holidays are Coming - Christmas routine on Zoom December 2021

This film was created by Dance Leaders Charlotte Tomlinson, Kirsty Clarke and the SideKick dancers. Their classes needed to go online for a few weeks in December 2021 so they decided to produce a Christmas routine on screen.

Memories - A film in lockdown 2021

This film was created by Dance Leader Kirsty Clarke with the SideKick Dancers. During the pandemic Kirsty has kept the SideKick Dance classes running using Zoom. Together they created this piece for both the online Special Schools of Leicester Dance Festival and for the re-opening evening of Curve Theatre.

All Together Now - Community Dance Collaboration

Dance group Movement for All were thrilled to receive funding from the Postcode Lottery for this exciting cross-generation community dance project. Fortunately SideKick Dance and mature dance group Showtime, were thrilled to be asked to be involved in the collaboration with Charlotte as the dance leader and choreographer. This project took place in Autumn/Winter 2017 and the film has been created by Tom Oliver of Bright Video Marketing

Some wonderful work in Leicestershire

SideKick Dance began as youth dance group at Ellesmere College and were supported by Ellesmere, Inspire2 and Leicestershire and Rutland Sport. This fantastic film has been made as a demonstration of the wonderful work that has been done in Leicestershire helping those with disabilities successfully be involved in dance and sport. SideKick dance are thrilled to have been included. 

SideKick Dance: Inspired By the Big Dance Pledge

Akram Khan created the Big Dance choreography with all types of participants in mind. SideKick Youth were thrilled to be invited by People Dancing to be part of the Inspired By films. 

11 Million Reasons

11 Million Reasons commissioned by People Dancing, with photographer Sean Goldthorpe is a photographic exhibition, with a mission to positively profile Deaf and disabled people who dance. Experience powerful visuals by emerging photographer Sean Goldthorpe, who was commissioned to create images inspired by iconic dance moments in film. The exhibition is presented in SPACE (Sound-Performance-Art-Community-Engagement), with original music by Jen Steiner.

BBC Children in Need Funding

Children in Need have been fantastic support in funding SideKick’s youth group. Here’s a short film that they made about Marcus and the young dancers.
